Il volume ricostruisce le vicende storiche e costruttive del castello di Donnafugata (Ragusa), edificio emblematico del patrimonio culturale siciliano dell’Ottocento. Lo studio di Milena Gentile che inserisce il caso specifico nel più ampio fenomeno del ritorno alla tipologia abitativa del castello, apre una finestra sulla storia dell’architettura siciliana, sulla società e sulla cultura ottocentesca nell’isola, letta attraverso le vicende degli Arezzo, la famiglia committente, creando così un ponte con la cultura romantica europea del XIX secolo.

The book aims at emphasizing the historical events of the Donnafugata Castle, emblematic building of the Sicilian cultural heritage of the nineteenth century. 
In spite of the numerous publication about the castle, the bibliography on this subject is lack of a research regarding the architectural problems. The author has deemed necessary to tackle the difficult subject of dating the main public works on the castle and, then, to specify the role of the purchasers, Corrado, Francesco and Vincenza Arezzo. 
The research of Milena Gentile gives a chance to appreciate the Sicilian architectural heritage, the society and the culture of the nineteenth century, establishing a link with the European Romantic culture of the nineteenth century.
